T-Shirts & Apparel

We currently offer two t-shirt styles, which are the 'Bring a date' shirt and the 'Yeah I'm crazy' shirt. The 'Bring a date' shirt is printed on a baby blue American Apparel, 100% pima cotton t-shirt. The 'Bring a date' shirt is printed on a silver American Apparel, 100% pima cotton t-shirt.

We use the American Apparel shirts exclusively because they are undoubtedly the highest quality, most comfortable t-shirts available. While developing our product line we got countless samples from every shirt manufacturer in an effort to select the very best. These shirts are head and shoulders above any competition. Our global philosophy and Political Mission:
At American Apparel, we make "Sweatshop Free" T-shirts. Our goal is to seek profits through innovation not exploitation. We are advancing a hyper capitalist-socialist business fusion. By relentlessly pursuing efficiencies in management and production, we aim to demonstrate that the use of exploitative labor tactics is not only unnecessary but actually counterproductive. We recognize that over-reliance on low-wage and ill-treated labor— like slavery at the time of the Civil War— impedes progress and technological advancement by relying on an outmoded and inhumane way of thinking about human potential that continues to cripple third-world countries and consumer values.

Although clothing is a human necessity that transcends all cultures, most apparel is made in exploitative settings. American Apparel is at the vanguard of a new business alternative. We treat our workers with dignity and are committed to paying them a living wage and beyond. 100% of everything we produce is sewn in our building without subcontractors. In the initial stage of environmental assessment, we've embarked on a program to recycle thousands of tons of fabric scraps annually. Garment manufacturing is a dirty industry. Electricity, dyes, fiber source, and transportation have a terrible impact on the environment and resources. Aware of our limitations, we are committed to finding viable alternatives such as solar power, pesticide free organic cotton, and an internal environmental audit of our daily operations.

We are bucking the trend in globalization that seeks profits through cheap offshore labor. We are more than 1300 people rooted in downtown L.A. We are part of the community— our workers live nearby. We are part of its politics— we marched with workers to protest immigration policies. We are part of its culture—we offer free classes in the English Language requested by the workers. In the process— with little or no help from the financial sector— we are growing faster and more profitable on paper than almost every major T-shirt maker. We have become the largest domestic garment manufacturer. American Apparel is proving that business-as-usual is not even good business. We think that globalization in its current form has polarized design and manufacturing in such a way that it is grossly inefficient and actually necessitates human (and environmental) exploitation to perpetuate itself. This rift does not make economic sense when workers cannot even afford to consume their basic necessities and when corporations travel thousands of miles just to pay people less money. Once this inhumane inefficiency is exposed, there will be a revolution in how business is conducted; a revolution that will be hastened when consumers sharply increase demand for products made without exploitation.

American Apparel thinks businesses should be built according to the model proposed by philosopher Paul Hawkin, who wrote: "The ultimate purpose of business is not, or should not be, simply to make money....The promise of business is to increase the general well-being of humankind through service, creative invention and ethical philosophy."

We are a business that practices social activism and believe that business can be used to bring about social change. Using the corporation as an activist tool is a pioneering example of progressive politics and industry.

Redefining the American Dream:
We are not about "made in USA". We are about American values. We believe in the American dream and want to do more for our customers and employees. We are pro-workers rights— whether in Los Angeles or anywhere in the world. We manufacture in the United States not because we are crazy flag fanatics but because it is the most vibrant T-shirt market in the world and therefore the most efficient place to manufacture our T-shirts. Our downtown Los Angeles factory, where we make 100% of our garments, is a true design lab where creative ideas, efficient manufacturing techniques and concepts for designing and selling T-shirts are developed and put to the test. A global divide exists between the haves and have-nots and too often the apparel industry has participated in the suppression of the poor. The challenge for companies, like American Apparel, is to establish new ways of doing business that are efficient and profitable without exploiting workers. As American Apparel's equity and strength grow, we promise to continually improve our product as well as the lives of our workers. Innovation and social responsibility - This is the new American Dream.
